1 Kings 6
12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.
Solomon, a child of David and successive king of Israel, had to fulfill his responsibility of building the house of God.
We see the time that he begun to build the house of the LORD in 1 Kings 6: 1
1 Kings 6: 1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
Solomon surely paid attention to details and spent much time and materials for this work. Gold, cedar, and other materials were used to finish the project. We can visit chapter 1 Kings 6 and gain insights into this project's grandeur.
Building the house of God is an honorable task. However, during the process of constructing the house, God still emphasized the importance of keeping His statutes and commandments. Without being clean and submissive to the Word of God, Solomon and Israel, even if they committed to this work, would not have pleased God.
As workers for Kingdom of God, we learn from this lesson. Sharing the Gospel, doing good things, and laboring for ministries are our duty and portion, but we must examine our lives continuously to make certain that we are not walking in a wicked path. By doing so, we will receive full benefits for the work and not lose our souls for eternity. It is pointless for us if we don't inherit the salvation despite tremendous effort only because we ignore His commandments.
