Psalm 19

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Firstly, many people truly trust in their intelligence and training in order to run their world. They often disregard powerful knowledge from the law and the words of God. With the introduction of science and technology, our generation is so proud that meditating upon the law of God and applying His statutes are considered as things in the past. However, it is a huge mistake.

Psalm 19 7 tells us that His law is perfect. He is the Creator of the world. He created it perfectly. He devised the law to govern it. Just as chaos will occur if gravity decides to disobey God and stop working, a human being will face serious troubles and cause tumult for people around him when he rebels against God’s rule. The law and words of God will make lowly people wise, but render the proud foolish.

Luke 6

46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Hebrews 4 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the heart.

Obeying the law of God, following His statutes, and maintaining the fear of God are the keys to have a solid foundation that no force can shake or remove. They are the weapons for true believers to overcome many battles against wicked ones. His guidance and His words are much more valuable than gold and sweeter than honey (Psalm 19 10).

Secondly, from time to time, there are sins we commit unknowingly. Thus, David prayed to God to forgive him of “secret faults” (Psalm 19 12). David relied on God to take control of his action so that sins would “not have dominion over” him (Psalm 19 13). He asked God to monitor his speaking with others and his inward meditation and thoughts (Psalm 19 14). David totally believed in God and His redemption (Psalm 19 14). How many kings or rulers of today seek after God’s law? How many people still revere God’s statutes and fear God in their hearts? The lack of God’s ruling in nations’ affairs and people’s lives are the reasons for many confusions and conflicts in our current time.

Christians should hasten to return to the perfect law of God. We should practice it in our daily lives and show the world how it should be done. We should stop fighting God’s standards based on our own understanding. The Holy Spirit is always there for us to give us wisdom and understanding.

John 16 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

John 16 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 16 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
